The defender's leadership is just one of many outstanding characteristics that make her an important part of Head Coach Marie Hourihan's squad for the busy upcoming season, which gets under way next month. Speaking with Argyle TV, Papaioannou said that it was an easy decision to sign a new contract with the Greens and that just one conversation with Hourihan was enough to do so. "I'm buzzing to be here, still," Papaioannou said. "I've said in previous interviews how much this club means to me. I've been here for seven seasons now, so I'm absolutely over the moon and looking forward to this season. "We knew that Marie was going to come in and be our new head coach... and she seems like a person who knows what she wants us to do and how she wants us to do it. I was sold on the first day I met her! "The last few seasons, we've always managed to stay in the league, but it hasn't been ideal. Now, we've brought in new players, and more full-time staff; I think a few people who have signed have said in their interviews that we aim to start finishing in the top half of the table, and I agree. That's something we haven't achieved as long as I've been here at this club, so we're aiming for it." 23rd

West London-born Luca came through the Academy at Premier League side Fulham and, after turning professional there, had loan spells with Harrow Borough, Stockport County, Aldershot Town, Crawley Town, Notts County and Gillingham. He has represented England at various age groups, all the way from under-15 to under-20. "I'm very pleased Luca has agreed to join us," said Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley. "He has a calm, focused character, impressed us on the training ground, and adds depth to our goalkeeping department." Head of Football Operations David Fox added: "Luca showed us in his time on trial that he is a goalkeeper with a great deal of ability and, importantly, plenty of room for development... Luca has a great attitude to learn, and we're excited with how we can help that." Luca will wear squad number 21. 22nd
Braces from Jared Rendle and Seb Campbell, and goals from Sam Lord and Frankie Maund, propelled the Greens to a 6-5 victory in turbulent weather conditions. Head Coach Jamie Lowry said: "Definitely one for the spectators today! However, there were many pleasing aspects. We won the football game, which we tell the boys is important, even in pre-season. We scored six good goals and had some really good passages of play and patterns. "The frustrating thing is to be conceding five goals. That's something we're going to have to really build on and work on from now until the start of the season, and also throughout. I'm sure once I watch it back and settle down, there'll be lots of positives to take. We just need to make sure our mindset and mentality are in the right place."
Exciting forward Tashall Sandhu spent several years with Category One academy side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Sandhu was offered a contract with the Pilgrims after a successful trial period this summer, and joined in time to be part of Jamie Lowry's pre-season plans. 21st

Midfielder Imy has been a mainstay in the Greens' starting XI for many years. Since making her debut in the 2020-21 season, she has gone on to make 128 appearances for Argyle, scoring eight goals. Returning to the Theatre of Greens was never in doubt. "I'm really excited," Crawford told Argyle TV. "This will be my sixth season now, at this club, and I can't wait to get going again. I think this season, probably the most excited I've been to get going and come back off pre-season. It's a privilege to be here and have my family and friends in the stands every week. It's like home to me. "I think this season is a good opportunity as a squad to develop, but even personally, I'm looking forward to learning some new stuff from Marie[head coach Hourihan]. She's had a lot of experience playing herself and success coaching, so I'm looking forward to developing as a player. Hopefully, I can push on even more this season. "We want to finish higher up in the league. That's always been our goal, and I think the last few seasons we haven't quite got there and we've ended up in that relegation battle, so hopefully we'll be more secure this season and work our way up this league." 17th

As part of the ongoing stadium upkeep, the Beacon Electrical Mayflower Grandstand has undergone steelwork renovation. An array of improvements have also been made to the Biffa Fan Zone behind the Mayflower Grandstand, which will aim to enhance fans' match day experience. Having been run to date by external traders, the Fan Zone will move to a club operation. Permanent power and water supplies have been put in, with three new concession containers also in place for the start of the season. Taking full ownership of the Fan Zone will also allow the events team to utilise the space more frequently for non-match day events, providing further revenue for the club. Additionally, a new television gantry is being constructed, with works set to be complete by the end of August. The current gantry will be extended by nine metres to accommodate the new EFL and Sky Sports requirements, while also giving extra space for the football analyst team to further aid their match-day operations. Two new gantries will also be built in line with the 18-yard box so that external broadcasters can use these, instead of scaffolding over seats. Season ticket holders previously displaced will be contacted by the Ticket Office in early September and offered the opportunity to return to their original seats. The scaffold structure in the Kawasaki Barn Park End will also be removed and a new gantry installed, allowing for a larger capacity in home and away ends. 15th

Head Coach Jamie Lowry said: " It was good to get a full 90 minutes of game time for most of the lads. We had lots of opportunities to practise our patterns and what we've been working on in training and had lots of the ball, but also had to deal with a little spell of the game with our backs against the wall for the last 10-15 minutes. "The boys had to pull together, so I'm really pleased with where we're at, at this stage, and how the game went." 14th

Twenty-one-year old forward, Tamara Wilcock, has followed Head Coach Marie Hourihan, and defenders Arabella Suttie and Roisin Kivel, to Home Park, having featured 21 times for Stoke last season, providing 13 goal involvements. Before her one-season stint with the Potters, she began her career with Sheffield United, joining their Academy at under-16 level, before progressing through to the under-21s and first-team. Marie Hourihan said: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Tamara to Plymouth Argyle. She is a talented and dynamic player who will bring quality and versatility to our squad. We're all looking forward to seeing her in green and watching her grow as part of this team." Benarous played 11 times for Bristol City having come through their academy. His time there was largely disrupted by two serious injuries, but he has now returned to full fitness. Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley is delighted to add the 21-year-old to his squad: "Ayman is a young player with brilliant potential and has impressed us all since he came in to train with the squad. "He was highly thought of at Bristol City but unfortunately had bad luck with injuries. He's shown everyone here during the last week the talent he has at his disposal. "We are really pleased he has agreed to join us as he had a number of options to choose from but felt Argyle was the best place for the next step in his career." Argyle Head of Football Operations David Fox added: "Ayman will add real versatility to the squad as he can play in several positions across the midfield but also in defensive areas as well. "It is great to get another player through the door so early in pre-season as Tom and his coaching staff continue to get their ideas across ahead of the League One season starting. "He's fully fit and has joined the squad out here in Austria and we look forward to seeing him in action in the coming weeks."
Charlotte Whitmore decided to return to the Theatre of Greens for the upcoming FAWNL Southern Premier Division campaign, despite having interest from other clubs. Last season, Charlotte scored 14 goals--her most notable coming at Plough Lane against AFC Wimbledon, with a brace and a last-minute winner. In 92 games for Argyle, she has found the back of the net 36 times. Charlotte explained what an easy choice it was to return: "I'm buzzing [to sign a new deal]," she told Argyle TV. "It's a great club and they're doing many things behind the scenes to push the Women's game on, so I'm excited to be a part of the season. "It's been really good with Marie. We're a week in now and have had a couple of sessions with her. She's lovely, fits in well with the girls and it's exciting to see what we're going to do for our pre-season. "Last season was a bit of a building block, to be honest. We managed to stay up and that was the main thing but it was a big learning curve I think for myself and all the girls, but everything going on behind the scenes is exciting. They are doing so much with the new head coach and signings coming in, and the infrastructure here is one of the best compared to clubs in our league for sure. Getting to play at Home Park every week, not every team gets that privilege, so it's really exciting and I didn't want to miss out on that. "I'm a Cornish girl, and Argyle is the closest professional club to me, so to be able to play here, at a very good level of football and get the support that we get is unbelievable. All my friends and family can come and watch every weekend as well!"

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has played 89 times for Argyle, scoring five times. Most notable among his strikes was a winning goal at Shrewsbury Town, in April 2023. Heading home deep into injury time to give Argyle a 2-1 win, Callum's goal sparked wild celebrations, as that goal gave Argyle a big push towards promotion and the Sky Bet League One title.
Primarily a midfielder, but with the ability to play in central defence and full-back as well, Wiredu spent the last three seasons with Fleetwood, with whom he rose to the role of captain. London-born Brendan came through the Charlton Athletic, and had loan spells with Bromley and Colchester United, before departing The Valley in February 2021 to Colchester on a permanent basis. He then caught the eye of Fleetwood, who paid six figures to tempt Brendan from the south east to the north west. where he played regularly over three seasons. "Brendan is a great acquisition for us," said Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley. "He is strong, versatile and, as evidenced by the fact he was Fleetwood's captain, a leader. It is great to have him on board." Argyle Head of Football Operations David Fox added: "Brendan is a player we have kept a close eye on, and he is a player who will really suit us as this moment in time. He is at an age where he is experienced, but still has many great years in front of him. We think he will complement us perfectly." Wiredu will wear the no 4 shirt.
Born in England, Pepple's family moved to Canada when he was young, where Bim grew up in the youth system of Calgary Foothills FC. He also played in the Canadian Premier League with Calgary-based side Cavalry FC, before heading to Europe. After a year in the under-19 team at Getafe, Bim briefly headed back to Cavalry where his goalscoring exploits six goals in seven--attracted the attention of Luton Town, who were in the Sky Bet Championship at the time. While a Hatter, Bim had loans with Grimsby Town, Bromley and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Then, at the start of 2024-25, he moved to Southend United on loan, in the Vanarama National League, and hit serious form, scoring 11 goals in 23 games. This saw him recalled by Luton, and sent out on loan to Chesterfield, in League Two. With the Spireites, he again impressed, scoring five goals from 15 starts and six substitute appearances. Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley said: "It's great to have Bim on board, to add to our forward options. He had an excellent campaign last season, scoring lots of goals and contributing wherever he played. "We are confident he will be an asset for us this, and we look forward to working with him to make him an even better player." Head of Football Operations David Fox added: "Bim is a player with a similar profile, in some ways, to Owen Oseni, who joined us last week. He is physically strong, quick, powerful and has an excellent work rate. He is the kind of forward that defenders don't like playing against, and we think that we can develop him further. Bim will wear the no 27 shirt.
The pair have been on trial with the Pilgrims at the start of pre-season and Cleverley is apparently keen to add them to his squad.

The 28-year-old, who had only recently married his long-time partner and mother of his three children, played for Liverpool in the FA Cup third round match against the Greens at Home Park on 9 February which Argyle won 1-0. Rest in peace. YNWA. 2nd
The Jamaican international joined the Greens last summer, after ending her time with Women's Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion. She featured 27 times, scoring three goals. These included the winner in Argyle's 1-0 cup quarter-final victory over Watford, while another helped push the Greens to league safety on the final day of the season against Gwalia United. Jarvis said it was an easy choice to continue her time in the South West, having spoken with new Head Coach Marie Hourihan during the off-season, and the experiences at Home Park in front of the Green Army last season. "Last year wasn't maybe the season that we hoped for," she told Argyle TV. "However, I think the club still had huge potential to push in the right direction. Seeing things fall into place in the off-season made the decision a lot easier for me. "[Marie] was very keen on having the players who would really push us towards the top of the table and hopefully get us in and around promotion. I really wanted to be involved in that and felt like I couldn't miss the opportunity. "Last year, I just needed to play. I hadn't played for a few seasons before that, so for me it was just important to get through the season, get as many minutes as I could and stay fit. Looking at this season, ideally the same, but getting the goals, the assists, and being a very impactful player. "Home Park is my favourite stadium that I've played at and I'm just really looking forward to this season playing there with the girls."

Before joining London City, the 21-year-old was part of the Arsenal academy, whilst also making appearances through the England youth set-up. Argyle Head Coach Marie Hourihan said: "Hermione is an exciting young goalkeeper, who excelled at Watford on loan during the back end of last season. I'm looking forward to working with her and help develop her game at Argyle this year and further."
The defender featured last season for Stoke City, under Head Coach Marie Hourihan, in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division but has moved to Home Park for the upcoming league campaign, following her boss to the South West. After making her WSL debut at the age of 18 for Birmingham City, a move to Rugby Borough followed, before Arabella broke through at the Potters. Last season, Suttie made 30 appearances in red and white, starting 26 times, with one being in the FAWNL Cup semi-final against Argyle at the Theatre of Greens. Hourihan said: "I've had the pleasure of working with Arabella during my time at Stoke and watch her develop into a great defensive player. She was someone I spoke to everyone at Argyle about upon my arrival here at Home Park, and we're delighted to see that she's committed to the club. Arabella will be an integral part of our success this season."
Having played for Stoke City for over a decade, the versatile defender follows head coach Marie Hourihan in making a move to the South West, as has her team-mate, Arabella Suttie. In 30 appearances last season, Kivel provided one assist and scored three goals, helping the Potters reach the FAWNL Cup final and finish third in the Northern Premier Division. Head Coach Hourihan said: "Securing the signing of a key leader like Roisin was something we couldn't pass up on. Working with her at Stoke, I was able to see her shine and I'm sure that her ability on the ball and leadership will be key for our success in this tough upcoming season." |
