Greens on Screen started its life in 1999 before many of the football sites that we are familiar with today, including Plymouth Argyle's own official site. Greens on Screen is dedicated to the sights, sounds and history of Plymouth Argyle Football club. It is owned and run by the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive, a charity dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and display of the heritage of our great football club.

The site owes its existence to Steve Dean.Without Steve's dedication and commitment for over 25 years, GoS would not exist and be the valued and loved resource for all football fans that it is today. The site is truly the envy of many clubs, and we owe a huge debt to Steve for his tireless work, and continued support behind the scenes.

Greens on Screen's first page was published in January 1999. Its early purpose was to bring Plymouth Argyle a little closer to those unable to see their team, and whilst it has changed a great deal over the years, its core themes - sights and sounds for Westcountry exiles - still stand. The site was very lucky to take on the content of Trevor Scallan's Semper Viridis in the summer of 2007, and in 2009 launched GoS-DB, a wealth of facts and figures from PAFC's history. A year later, we embarked on a complete history of Argyle, with much-valued contributions from chapter authors. Greens on Screen was taken over by its new custodians, The Argyle Archive, in 2024.

Greens on Screen is an amateur website and proud of it. It is run by a team of volunteers from the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive (Argyle Archive). Without the hard work and much-valued contributions of these volunteers, running the site would not be possible. Greens on Screen is self-taught and as a result, a little bit quirky.

Greens on Screen remains advertisement free, which means we are grateful for the generous support of our donors and the work of our volunteers to help keep it free of promotions. If you would like to support the work of Greens on Screen, please consider donating to the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive.

GoS's sole aim is to be a service to fellow supporters, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate Argyle'ss history for many years to come.

Argyle Women's Midfielder, Ellie Noble, has been chosen as player of the month for December

Tom Cleverley recognises that Argyle need to strengthen their squad when the transfer window opens tomorrow, but admits that they can't afford to take risks. The attacking element of the team has been further depleted by the recent injury to Owen Oseni, leaving just Bim Pepple and Lorent Tolaj as strikers.

"I think we will learn from a few mistakes we made in the summer. We took a few risks that I don't think we can afford to take in January," said Cleverley.

"We need established, we need durable, we need experience and we need quality. There will be certainly some new faces coming in in January to help the team and strengthen the squad, which will most likely see two or three go out the other way as well.

"It's difficult, especially if you are buying or loaning from clubs in the same division, but we want to do our business as soon as possible.

"I think the positive situation we have now is that I know the squad a lot better. I know the type of striker we need, the profile of players. In the summer we had seven players before I was even in post, and I had only seen the players for two or three weeks.

"It was really difficult to try and navigate a (transfer) window then, but now a lot more knowledge behind it and how we need to play, and how that profile of striker needs to look.

"I'm very, very clear of what we need in January and although transfers are difficult to execute I have got full faith in the recruitment team to do so."

At the halfway stage of the season, Tom Cleverley has been candid in his assessment of his team's position:

"I'm not happy with how it has gone so far. I can sit here and say this and that, the facts are we are not where we have to be.

"It's now my responsibility to make sure the second half of the season is a bit more like what you have seen throughout December, 10 points in our last five.

"Although the last two home games have been disappointing, you would take two points a game from now until the end of the season for sure.

"Things have been looking better recently and now it's about us really kicking on with consistency to make sure we are looking upwards rather than over our shoulders."

30th

Tom Cleverley reacted to Argyle's 1-1 against Wycombe yesterday - only their second draw of the campaign - which marks the halfway point of the '25-'26 season.

"We've normally lost those kind of games, so to get a draw [is positive]," he said.

"It's always good for the football club when you get a late equaliser, it shows good spirit, shows a never-say-die attitude. But, I think we've got a little bit of regret about our first-half performance.

"It's my job now to understand why that was so flat, so ineffective. We prepare the team to be as effective as possible; high energy, high intensity. We're going to have to play every three days for the next two games as well, so there can't be any sort of dusting the cobwebs off, or getting the stiffness out of your legs.

"I think there's a little bit of an anxiety. Teams sometimes do sit in here, and we've struggled to break that down, especially when conceding first.

"What I'm pleased about today is we've normally seen those games fizzle out into a 1-0 defeat. I thought we had a bit of a plan B today, which is something that we'll also try to get in the market.

"We certainly give it a right good go today, and I thought we were well worthy of a point.

"We've won eight league games this year, but what we've done is lost too many. I'm not happy. I don't think any of us are. We can sort of put a positive spin on it; 10 points in six games from December is play-off form, but you have to take it as a whole 23 games.

"We've had two real poor periods: the first four games, and then somewhere around October. Really poor, really inconsistent half of a season.

"Now I feel like we have the experience in the team... to be more consistent - and consistent in a good way. The target is to be more consistent, and unfortunately today we weren't. You saw the two sides of us today, encapsulated."

A late, late goal by Bim Pepple, headed on from a corner by 'keeper Conor Hazard, saved a point for Argyle at home to Wycombe Wanderers. After falling behind to a 10th-minute Dan Casey goal, it looked as though the Greens would not be able to rescue anything from the game, but Pepple, who came on as an early sub because of an injury to Owen Oseni, forced the ball just beyond the line, and obtained parity for his side.

The game was the 23rd of the season for Tom Cleverley's Pilgrims who have 26 points at the halfway stage, with eight wins and 13 defeats to their name.

Argyle: Hazard, Wiredu, Pleguezuelo (Ross), Edwards, Tolaj, Amaechi (Finn), Mumba, Mitchell, Oseni (Pepple), Boateng (Szucs), Sorinola. Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, Benarous, McCabe.

For Head Coach Tom Cleverley, there were a few areas to address as a root cause for yesterday's heavy defeat by Reading, but also some reasons for positivity.

"It was a disastrous start, going down to 10 men after 12 minutes," he said. "From there, you have to stay in the game, draw it out, and make them feel nervous for as long as you possibly can, and we didn't manage to do that.

"At 3–0 down, though, I thought the character, the quality, and the fight were outstanding. To pull it back to 3–1, then potentially 3–2 with the penalty – and for me, the rebound is a second penalty for sure – and then to keep going. Of course, we were open today. We gave it a right go and had to accept that we were going to be open in transition.

"I thought Reading were a good side. We knew we were going to face a good side, and I thought they proved that today. I'm really gutted for our supporters that they didn't get to see two good teams really going at it, because the red card was responsible for changing that.

"When you see how we played for the last hour of the game, it just makes that 10–15 minute period even more frustrating. We'll pick the bones out of it, but we've consistently overcome difficult obstacles this season. First, it was our away form. Then, it was the lack of clean sheets. We're not at the bottom of either of those yet, but we've improved a lot.

"Now the last big obstacle we've got is this place. We need to get back to what this club was underpinned by for the two years before that. We're managing to get points on the road now, which the club hasn't done for two years, but this has to be a real source of serious points for us. Right now, that's the final obstacle we need to overcome.

"I'm not going to go too deep into the officiating, but I felt the punishment for our incident was a yellow card and a penalty – why was there no punishment for theirs? And the second penalty, for me, is stonewall. I'm disappointed with that, but I'll try to focus on the positives.

"There's a chance in just a few days' time to go again."

26th

Romain Larrieu and Joe Mason are Argyle's match-day guests at the first Boxing Day home fixture since 2016.

Argyle's Boxing Day scoreline, of a 4-1 home loss to Reading, makes for difficult reading. The bare facts are that the Greens were 3-0 down after 19 minutes, with a Lewis Wing double and Kamari Doyle goal all stemming from Joe Ralls' 12th-minute dismissal, which led to a penalty, which led to Wing's first, which led to everything else. However, Argyle really rallied, and when substitute Xavier Amaechi got one back there was actual belief that something could be salvaged. When Argyle were given a penalty of their own, it did not seem a pipe dream. However, Lorent Tolaj missed from the spot, after which things seemed to fall apart, Jack Marriott sealing things for Reading late on.

Argyle: Hazard, Ross, Edwards (Szucs), Tolaj, Mumba, Benarous (Amaechi), Mitchell, Oseni (Wiredu), Boateng, Sorinola, Ralls. Substitutes: Ashby-Hammond, McCabe, Pepple, Finn.

23rd

Tom Cleverley has issued a positive update on the return to action of Caleb Watts who has been sidelined since August with a significant hamstring injury. Watts could be in contention for the Boxing Day home game against Reading.

Julio Pleguezuelo 'Pleggy' is also expected to be available, having been rested last Saturday with a swollen knee.

The injuries to Tegan Finn and Jamie Paterson are also not thought serious, though Owen Dale will be out of action for some weeks or even months.

Cleverley also reported that Argyle are close to agreeing a contract extension with Joe Ralls, whose current deal is due to end after the Burton game on 4 January. The 32-year-old has had a positive impact on the field and in the dressing room since his arrival as a free agent in November.

"We have had positive talks with Rallsy and his representative," said Cleverley. "We are hoping that one will be done certainly before the weekend, so pretty soon."

Reacting to her side's comprehensive 3-0 win yesterday, Women's Head Coach, Marie Hourihan expressed her delight with the performance, offered positive words for goal-scorers Lue and Noble, and discussed the position it leaves the team in heading into 2026.

She said: "I thought in the first 10 minutes we started brightly and established a good foothold in the game, but probably didn't create as many clear-cut opportunities as we'd like to have. In terms of a start to a game, it's probably the best that we've been for a few weeks.

"We've been on a journey this first part of the season. The performance level today was a replica of what we've seen across the first half of the season. I continue to encourage that the more supporters we can get in, the better the players benefit and thrive from it.

"Going into the new year, we've got some big games coming up where that support from the Green Army will be incredibly important."

Lifelong Argyle fan, 24-year-old Brandon Easdon from Cornwall, was another beneficiary of the Greens' magnificent win at Doncaster on Saturday. Brandon bet 5 on Lorent Tolaj to score a hat-trick, at odds of 150/1 which netted him 755. Generously, he chose to make a donation to a charity of Tolaj's choice, so 100 was sent to Argyle's Project 35 which, with gift aid, came to 112.50.

Argyle defender, Brendan Galloway, was an unused substitute for Zimbabwe as they lost their opening AFCON game to Egypt with Liverpool striker, Mo Salah, netting in added time as Egypt came back from a goal down to win 2-1.

21st

Men's Head Coach, Tom Cleverley, reacted to Argyle's stunning win on the road yesterday with a mixture of delight and caution. Stressing the importance of getting the basics right, he said:

"Every small detail was delivered to a tee." [It was] "All down to doubling up on their dangerous wingers, to putting the ball in the back of their net, which is the biggest of details. I thought we delivered them really well.

"The key is now not to get carried away. It's three points, it's one game. We're in a good run, but last time we won by four goals away from home, I feel like we got ahead of ourselves a little bit. It's important we don't do that.

"[It was such a good day] because the fundamentals were there, and the quality and confidence is growing all the time.

"[Coming from behind to win] is a key milestone that gives the players a lot of belief when we do go behind that we have the calmness, the quality, the character to come from behind. So, a big box ticked there.

"We're growing all the time. We're not going to get carried away by this one. I think we're on a good journey that's starting to show in our performances and results.

"I thought this would be the journey that we went on. First of all it was: 'OK, can we solidify this team?' We were too easy to beat six, eight weeks ago. First and foremost, it was making us solid.

"Then with results, we'll grow confidence, and you'll see the real quality and talent of this group. We're on that journey. We're nowhere near where we want to be. We don't sit comfortably looking at that league table still. But we're on the right track, and that's down to hard work, togetherness, and some good performances consistently good performances from a lot of the players.

"I love the festive period in football. There'll be full focus on Reading. It's an important time to spend with the family, but the main focus for me is what we do on Boxing Day against Reading. That's where my focus will be."

On the down side, there are still concerning injuries to Owen Dale (ankle ligament damage), Jamie Paterson (calf), Tegan Finn (hamstring) and Julio Pleguezelo ('angry' knee).

Argyle Women have completed the free signing of forward Una Lue. The 19-year-old joins the Greens having most recently played for fellow FAWNL Southern Premier Division side Cheltenham Town.

Una made 67 appearances for the Robinesses, scoring 31 goals, after also having previous academy experiences with Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion.

She will wear the number two shirt and is available to be included in the squad for today's game against Real Bedford at Home Park.

Head Coach Marie Hourihan said: "We are very excited to bring Una here to Home Park. She's a player that knows the league and opposition, for this weekend, very well, so will be an exciting addition to our squad and provide superb attacking options to our already-strong frontline."

Argyle Women scored a stunning victory against near rivals Real Bedford at a rain-sodden Home Park. A first-half brace from Ellie Noble and a debut goal from new signing Una Lue in the closing stages saw Argyle through.

Wide forward Olivia Francis had her red card against the U's rescinded after a successful appeal from the club, meaning she retained her place in the team.

The win means Argyle move up to second place in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division table behind Bournemouth and ahead of their next opponents, Watford.

Argyle: 1 Hermione Cull, 2 Una Lue, 6 Layla Proctor, 11 Roisin Kivel (capt), 14 Katie Wilson, 15 Tamara Wilcock (17 Paris Dalton, 72), 18 Caitlin Smith (16 Ella Stephens, 52), 19 Ellie Noble, 23 Olivia Francis, 24 Tianna Teisar (7 Charlotte Whitmore, 75), 26 Arabella Suttie. Substitutes: 31 Aimee Walters (gk), 32 Saskia Worrall (gk), 3 Phoebe Hampson, 27 Sienna Gilbert.

Goals: Noble 14, 40, Lue 74.

Lorent Tolaj was the hat-trick hero in a five-star performance, as Argyle beat Doncaster Rovers 5-1 at the Eco-Power Stadium in Sky Bet League One. The Greens' Swiss striker was back with a bang, finding three to help his side come from behind to win comfortably in South Yorkshire. Owen Oseni and Xavier Amaechi were also on the scoresheet, as the Pilgrims gave the travelling 974 away support one heck of an early Christmas present.

Argyle: Hazard, Ross, Edwards, Tolaj (Szucs), Mumba (McCabe), Benarous (Amaechi), Mitchell, Oseni (Pepple), Boateng, Sorinola, Ralls (Wiredu). Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, Hayman.

Goals: Tolaj 12, 24, 73, Oseni 22, Amaechi 89

Booked: Ralls 62, Mumba 63

The last time Argyle scored five away was in a 5-1 thrashing of Port Vale in October 2003.

Happy 34th birthday to Jamie Paterson.

Imy Crawford and Katie Dickson have opted to terminate their contracts with Argyle Women for personal reasons. The two have departed Home Park amicably. Both have been a part of the Greens' core squad for several years.

Imy joined Argyle in 2020, making nine appearances in her debut season, before going on to feature 137 times across six years, scoring 10 goals and captaining the Pilgrims on multiple occasions.

Katie arrived in PL2 in 2022, after moving to Plymouth for university, and made 84 appearances in green, scoring five goals across four years.

We wish them both well.

IHappy 17th Birthday to Seb Campbell who made his Argyle debut as sub in Argyle's 6-2 EFL Trophy win against Spurs U21 at the age of 16 years and 279 days in which game he become the youngest player to score for Argyle.

Argyle are in talks with Joe Ralls to try to extend his contract past January. Tom Cleverley regards this as 'a priority'. Since joining the Greens as a free agent at the start of November, the central midfielder and former Cardiff City captain has played four times and made his second start in the home game against Rotherham United last Saturday, when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win.

Tom Cleverley has confirmed that Argyle will look at strengthen their attacking options when the transfer window opens in January.

Describing it as a collaboration with Director of Football, Derek Adams, and Head of Football Operations, David Fox, Cleverly said: "We are ready to go when January does come.

"Derek has made a great start to his life back at the football club in a new role. He's really decisive, we are really structured and organised and that relationship is working really well.

"It's an important window for us. We must improve. I think we have identified where we need to improve and Derek is very decisive in doing that."

As well as watching Saturday's win on the pitch, the Green Army answered the call for donations to the ninth Project 35 event.

Some 1.2 tonnes of food donations were received, as well as 1,945 in cash. An additional 537.50 was kindly donated from Practice Plus Group from their Christmas Fair. Overall, an impressive total of 2,482.50 was raised for Project 35, in partnership with Ginsters.

Not only was the support from the community massive, but the Rotherham United Away Travel Supporters Club made an incredibly generous donation to the project, a greatly appreciated gesture.

Argyle's annual Christmas Cracker took place at Manadon Sports Hub.

The event offered an opportunity for attendees to have a kickabout with the men's first-team, before a meet-and-greet with the squad, where young fans could collect autographs, photos and chat to the players.

The Christmas Cracker marked the start of the Christmas Roadshows, with courses available across Devon and Cornwall during the festive season. Open to children of all ages and abilities, activities are designed to engage young people by introducing and developing new skills and techniques in the enjoyment of football.

Christmas Roadshows run from Monday, 22 December until Friday, 2 January.

Argyle Women's Head Coach, Marie Hourihan, was frustrated with her side's narrow Cup defeat yesterday at the hands of Oxford United.

"It's gutting," she told Argyle TV. "We put ourselves in a really good position, but the game changed in the 47th minute. The message at half-time was to manage the game, and after a refereeing decision, we went down to 10 players quite early on, and then we've got to ride the storm.

"Overall, to a player, I thought we did very well. At the end of the game, to be hit by two sucker punches in the 87th and 94th minute, it's a hard one to take. I do have to take the positives, though, in terms of the reaction of the players that were on the pitch.

"The desire and determination, bodies on the line, defending the box, I can't fault them in that respect. We have to take the positives in that situation, but we must learn from that. It's two red cards now that have hurt us, so we've got to take that on board.

"The result doesn't take away from the effort and the intent of the players, which was fantastic."

She continued: "Our focus now turns to next week, which is just as big and important a game for us. We take it on the chin this weekend. We're all extremely disappointed, but we've got to refocus now and be ready for our game with Bedford next week.

Argyle Under-18s bowed out of the FA Youth Cup on Monday evening after a narrow 1-0 away defeat by Watford. A goal from Jael Norville just before half time did the damage.

The Greens battled hard and had opportunities in front of goal, even with just 10 players after Oscar Dean was sent off, but couldn't find the final and decisive touch needed to get back into the tie.

After the game, Head Coach Jamie Lowry expressed his frustration:

"We're obviously disappointed to exit," Lowry told Argyle TV. "I thought we'd done more than enough to win the game. We competed really well, and the boys left everything out there, working extremely hard and competing, but had a few disappointing moments. We conceded a poor goal, and that gave them a bit of a foothold in the game just before half-time, and then we never really had enough quality in and around their box to really hurt them or trouble their keeper as much as we probably should have.

"We came here with the intention of wanting to make Watford work. They knew they were in for a game, and the boys' effort, and desire to run and compete was incredible. There were just a few bits of quality that we probably lacked to go and win the game.

"...the pleasing thing for me is that we came here and we competed. We didn't look like a Category Three team against a Category Two opponent; we matched it but just lacked that bit of quality. When we went on our run last year, those were the key moments, and we didn't quite get that moment right to defend our goal well enough to win the tie tonight."

Argyle: 1 Jack Flower, 2 Jovan Wamani (15 Kian Burch, 87), 3 Malachi Davy, 4 Oscar Dean (capt), 5 Sam Hayman, 6 Toby Haley, 7 Tashall Sandhu (14 Billy Devlin, 80), 8 Sam Lord (16 Frankie Maund, 58), 9 Fletcher Poole, 10 Seb Campbell, 11 Tegan Finn. Substitutes: 23 Leo McCormick, 12 Toby Maclean, 17 Joel Tolcher.

Yellow cards: Wamani 55, Sandhu 73

Red card: Dean 77

Argyle Women disappointedly exited the Adobe Women's FA Cup, with a late 2-1 loss away to Oxford United. Argyle took the lead through an Ellie Noble penalty in the first half but suffered the controversial sending-off of Olivia Francis early in the second half. Oxford equalised close to 90 minutes and scored the winner in the fourth minute of added time.

Argyle: 1 Hermione Cull, 3 Phoebe Hampson, 6 Layla Proctor, 11 Roisin Kivel (capt), 14 Katie Wilson, 15 Tamara Wilcock (7 Charlotte Whitmore, 59), 18 Caitlin Smith, 19 Ellie Noble (17 Paris Dalton, 70), 23 Olivia Francis, 24 Tianna Teisar (16 Ella Stephens, 59), 26 Arabella Suttie. Substitutes: 21 Eilish Brogan (gk), 5 Giota Papaioannou, 29 Chloe Ingrouille, 30 Shana Dolbel.

Goal: Noble 15, Red card: Francis.

Argyle's home game against Rotherham today has been designed the latest Project 35 when fans are asked to bring donations of food, goods and money to help the less fortunate at Christmas.

Argyle made it back-to-back 1-0 wins with another backs to the wall, single-goal victory over Rotherham United at Home Park. Joe Ralls' goal, late in the first half, was the difference, with Argyle having to dig deep to see the game out, under heavy Rotherham pressure in the second half. But the Greens survived, winning for only the third time at home this season, bringing great joy to the Green Army.

Defender, Brendan Galloway, put in a solid performance in his 100th game in Green before heading off to AFCON with the Zimbabwe squad.

Argyle: Hazard, Pleguezuelo, Edwards (Szucs), Mumba (Wiredu), Mitchell, Oseni, Boateng, Galloway, Sorinola (Benarous), Ralls, Dale (Ross). Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, Paterson, Amaechi.

Man of the match was Alex Mitchell, singled out for praise by Chris Errington with a rare nine rating.

In the post-match presser, Tom Cleverley emphasised that it was a question of substance over style and that Argyle were concentrating on substance over style for the time being.

Happy birthday to Argyle's Head of Football Operations and former player, David Fox.

A massive Greens on Screen happy birthday to Argyle's oldest fan, Charlie Trevethan, who is 100 today! Charlie might be the only person alive who remembers watching Jack Leslie and Sammy Black play.

A party at Club Argyle was attended by, among others, Jack Leslie's three granddaughters. Messages were received from former players, including Paul Wotton, Kevin Hodges, Luke McCormick and Romain Larrieu.

Charlie had a great day!

"That's three away wins on the spin, three clean sheets in five, but more importantly than that I definitely think we are growing as a team." Tom Cleverley reacts to Argyle's one-nil away victory at Wycombe last night.

Argyle's Head Coach thinks he can see definite signs of progress for a team which lost 2-0 on the same ground in the FA Cup only a few weeks ago.

Speaking to Plymouth Live, he said: "It's a difficult place to come, they have not lost here since the second game of the season...

"I thought we rode our luck a little bit at the end, but we didn't have any luck at the weekend just gone (in the 1-0 home league defeat by Bradford City). So it balances itself this week and I'm really happy for the players, they worked hard for that one.

"We need to replicate that fight from when we are defending a lead to when we are chasing a game - the same fight, the same belief."

Argyle ground out a massive win for the third away game in succession, as they beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 in front of of 500-odd Greens, in a low quality game where the Greens' performance underscored by heart, endeavour, graft and solid defending. The nominal difference between the two sides on the night was a goal just after the hour mark by Owen Oseni, who defied defenders and goalkeeper to push past them all, and off balance, get the ball into the empty net.

Argyle: Hazard, Wiredu, Pleguezuelo (Szucs), Paterson (Mumba), Edwards, Mitchell, Oseni, Boateng, Galloway (Amaechi), Sorinola (Ross) Dale. Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, McCabe, Finn.

Argyle Under-18s suffered a 4-1 defeat to Oxford United in a re-arranged fixture on Tuesday afternoon, bringing to an end the run of six wins in six games in all competitions.

The Pilgrims led at half-time, thanks to Deniz Doru's header, but the hosts scored four second-half goals to claim victory at The MGroup Stadium, the home of Oxford City.

Argyle: 1 Jack Flower, 2 Toby Haley, 3 Malachi Davy, 4 Oscar Dean (capt) (14 Billy Devlin, 75), 5 Sam Hayman, 6 Deniz Doru, 7 Fletcher Poole, 8 Sam Lord, 9 Joe Hatch, 10 Seb Campbell (16 Frankie Maund, 80), 11 Kian Burch (15 Tashall Sandhu, 69). Substitutes: 23 Leo McCormick (gk), 12 Toby Maclean.

Argyle Women's Head Coach, Marie Hourihan thought that her side's win away to Hashtag United yesterday was a game of two halves.

"They were two very contrasting halves," Hourihan told Argyle TV. "I thought we were poor in the first half, and through the first 15-20 minutes of the game, we were very reactive, and our intensity on the press was off. We allowed them too much time to try to gain a little foothold in the game.

"We scored a very good goal, but it was disappointing in that we could have implemented some of the key patterns of play that we'd looked at in the week a lot better. We got into some good positions, but again, the quality of the final pass was poor.

"The second half was a much more dogged performance, and we settled a lot better on the ball, got into some good pockets of space in the final third, and were a lot more effective.

"We managed the game very well, took the sting out of it and, most importantly at this stage of the season, saw the game through to get the three points.

"The real positive for me now is the real squad collective that we have. We're able to manage different situations and have got different profiles of players to be able to cope with those.

"Overall, that was a really pleasing thing. Sometimes you've got to show a different side and win the game a little bit ugly at times. We did that to good effect today.

The win saw the Women extended their unbeaten run to 16 in all competitions.

There is good news about the progress of Caleb Watts.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Pilgrims from Exeter City in the summer, has not played since he suffered a serious hamstring injury early in the 3-2 away win against Luton Town on 13 September

Tom Cleverley expects the attacker to be back training with the team in a couple of weeks and could be available for Argyle's Boxing Day home clash with Reading.

Argyle Women's forward Phoebie Poole has been voted the club's Player of the Month for November.

The Greens' number nine netted three times in four games, with her brace against Gwalia United securing Argyle's place in the third round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup and her goal being the winner in the FAWNL Cup Round of 16. However, she was sent off near the end of the Gwalia win.

Phoebie won the supporters' poll with 55% of the vote, ahead of Arabella Suttie, Ellie Noble and Caitlin Smith.

Argyle Women have added to their squad with the signing of 23-year-old midfielder, Phoebe Hampson.

Phoebe joins the Greens on a free transfer, having most recently played for Seton Hall in South Orange, New Jersey, in the NCAA Division 1 level of American collegiate soccer.

Across her four years in the Big East Conference, she featured 75 times for the Pirates, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Phoebe began her career at Everton, playing through the age groups at the Toffees' Academy, and was also a part of the Welsh youth set-up, featuring in the Under-19s European Championship qualifying round group stage games.

Christian Kent, Executive Lead for Women's football, commented: "[Phoebe] will add value to the depth of our squad, as we are still competing across the league, league cup, FA Cup, and County Cup. Having this squad depth will be extremely important as we look to maintain performances across all competitions."

Argyle Women notched up another victory in the FAWNL South Premier Division - this time 2-1 on the road at Hashtag United, thanks to a brace of goals from Ellie Noble. New signing, Phoebe Hampson immediately went into the starting eleven. This victory extended the Women's unbeaten run to 16 games in all competitions.

Argyle's home woes continued with a 1-0 home defeat on Saturday lunchtime, against Bradford City.In truth, this was an improved Argyle performance, essentially losing by a single goal to a penalty that was far from clear-cut. However, a familiar inability to look like scoring goals came back to haunt the Pilgrims, especially in the absence of leading goalscorer Lorent Tolaj, serving game one of a three-game suspension. Bradford's penalty was scored by former Argyle midfielder Antoni Sarcevic, a little over ten minutes into the second half. The award was suspect arguably the contact on Stephen Humphrys was not enough to send him to the deck but such is the lot of a team on a bad trot, and once the Greens went behind, designs on an equaliser were in hope, rather the knowledge of any experience.

Argyle: Hazard, Pleguezuelo (Ross), Paterson, Edwards (Szucs), Mumba, Mitchell, Oseni, Boateng, Sorinola, Ralls (McCabe), Dale (Amaechi). Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, Wiredu, Galloway.

A minute's applause was held ahead to the game to honour the memory of Argyle Legend, Johnny Newman, who passed away recently. Johnny's family were in attendance.

Tom Cleverley reacted with positivity to his team's Vertu Trophy win at Leyton Orient last night which saw the Pilgrims advance to the last 16 of the competition and collect £20,000 in doing so.

"I was pleased with the players' mentality tonight," he said. "It was a bit of a disappointment when we didn't get the penalty, which was a stonewaller, and they handled that, brushed it off and kicked on again. It was a thoroughly deserved away win.'

Plymouth Live's Chris Errington, provided his useful take on the discussions at last night's Fans Forum:

Managerial Position: Chairman Simon Hallett stated the club is currently standing by Head Coach Tom Cleverley despite fan anger and a poor run of form. He explained that the board does not believe changing the manager right now would significantly improve the team's chance of avoiding relegation.

Collective Accountability: Hallett admitted the club has made "bad decisions" in the recent past, but he stressed the need for collective responsibility rather than apportioning blame to individuals. The focus must now be on correcting mistakes and identifying strategies to fix the team's current problems.

Budget and Underperformance: Director of Football Derek Adams confirmed that Argyle possesses a "top six budget" for the current League One campaign. Paul Berne added that EFL figures support this high budget, indicating the club has not spent its resources effectively on player recruitment.

Transfer Window Plans: Adams suggested that the club would have scope to bring in up to two new players during the upcoming January transfer window - which could increase to three or four. This recruitment effort is intended to strengthen the squad and address weaknesses identified during the difficult first half of the season.

Foulston Park Development: Hallett defended the significant investment in the Foulston Park project, which includes the new academy facilities, despite fan concerns about its cost amidst first-team struggles. He emphasised that the academy is being built as a crucial long-term asset for the football club.

Relegation Concerns: Fans voiced strong worry and frustration over the club's position near the League One relegation zone, citing seven losses in eight games as "ridiculous." Hallett acknowledged the fans' anxiety but reiterated the other measures being taken to help the team avoid the drop to League Two.

Potential for New Investment: Hallett confirmed that Argyle remains an attractive proposition for investors due to its potential and appealing infrastructure. He stated he would feel obliged to sell if the "right person" came along, defined as someone committed to the club's values and prepared to invest in the first team.

Restoring Fan Trust: In response to strong criticism regarding recent decisions, Hallett acknowledged that the only way to regain the supporters' trust is by making better future decisions. He admitted that the club has recently made mistakes in strategic and managerial appointments.

Happy birthday to Women's midfield player, Layla Proctor.

Argyle have progressed into the next round of the Vertu Trophy, with a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient in front of almost 400 hardy Greens. With the game level well into injury time, Matty Sorinola put a dangerous cross into the area that neither White nor Chinedu could clear. The only man to see calm in the chaos was Lorent Tolaj, and without hesitation, he backheeled the ball beyond the seemingly impenetrable Simkin. With seconds left on the clock, it did not take long for the referee to blow his whistle, ending the game and confirming Argyle's place in the Round of 16.

Argyle: Ashby-Hammond, Ross, Wiredu, Pleguezuelo (Mitchell), Paterson, Edwards, Tolaj, Oseni (Finn), Roberts (Boateng), Sorinola, Dale. Substitutes (not used): Hazard, Mumba, McCabe, Hatch.

The latest Fans Forum was held at Home Park. In a wide-ranging and sometimes uncomfortable session, taking the questions were Simon Hallett, new Director of Football, Derek Adams, and incoming CEO, Paul Berne. A live stream can be accessed via the Argyle website.

Tom Cleverley has outlined his two targets for Plymouth Argyle for the rest of this season, which are a mid-table finish in League One and 'a really strong run' in the Vertu Trophy.

The first pitch at Argyle's Foulston Park multi-million-pound Foulston Park development has been officially opened.

The new 3G surface, unique in the city, has been purpose-designed for both rugby and football, creating a new focal point for community sport while also providing high-quality training facilities for Plymouth Albion RFC, Plymouth Argyle Women and the Argyle Community Trust's community programmes.

The pitch has been made possible thanks to funding of 2.25m from the Premier League, The FA and The Football Foundation. It marks the second major milestone in the site's regeneration, following the successful launch earlier this year of The Hub at Foulston Park, a community sports and wellbeing centre

Happy 77th birthday to former manager, Neil Warnock.
