Plymouth-born Wyatt joined Argyle in 1950 from Astor Institute, having played for the same Plymouth Schoolboys side as Peter Anderson and he also later played for Oak Villa, before moving to Astor Institute.
As a youngster he had starred as an inside-forward, but found it hard to break into the team at Home Park in this position. During his early years at Argyle he also undertook his National Service between 1953-55 serving as a Bombardier with 64th Training Regiment Royal Artillery, based at Park Hall Camp in Oswestry, Shropshire, whilst initially part-time with Argyle.
It took five years before he made his Argyle debut and soon after he moved into defence, first at full-back, then as a centre-half. Having made his debut in September 1955, he then became the regular choice in his new position for nearly three years and helped the club win the Third Division title in 1958-59 in what was one of his best seasons. Competition for places saw his appearance totals dwindle between 1960 and 1964, particularly with the continued presence of George Robertson and the signing of Gordon Fincham. Wyatt had a knack of come-backs, though, whenever he was out of the side, and the team's resurgence when he was recalled in 1963-64, was one example of that.
In total he played 215 times in green, scoring twice, and during his time with the club also managed to play a further 150 times for the reserves, scoring 17 goals.
In 1964, after nine seasons, he left to join Torquay United teaming up with former team-mates Peter Anderson and John 'Cardiff' Williams, who were already at Plainmoor. In three seasons at the club, he played 80 times and scoring eight goals, and helped the Gulls secure promotion from Division Four via a 3rd-place finish in the 1965-66 season.
Released by Torquay in 1967, he ended his career with non-league Wadebridge Town in the South Western League whilst also working for the Ministry of Public Building and Works as a heating engineer.
Reg spent the remainder of his life in his home town and continued to follow the fortunes of Argyle and was a regular match-day guest. Sadly, he passed way in November 2007 at the age of 75.
