Born in Saltash and a full-back, Reeves spent his entire professional career at Home Park. After playing for local non-league side Saltash United, he signed as an amateur with Argyle before turning professional in 1960.
He went on to make 124 appearances for the club without scoring, though those matches were spread over 10 years and eight seasons. Although often a fringe member of the squad, he did make an important contribution in his decade at Home Park and became the first-choice left-back for about 18 months towards the end of his career.
He also proved to have a good eye, as a further service he performed for the club was to recommend Colin Sullivan, another Saltash-born full-back. They played together in the 1968-69 season, when the club's full-back pairing was regularly a pair of Saltashians.
After leaving Argyle at the end of the 1969-70 season, he moved to South Africa to play under former team-mate Micky Lill at Germiston Callies, who were based in the East Rand region of Gauteng. Callies played in the NFL (National Football League) which was the first professional association football league in South Africa, established in 1959, which lasted until 1977 when it was superseded; Callies folded a year later.
In 1971, he had been voted the Callies' Player of the Year and remained with the club for several seasons. After his playing career ended, Reeves stayed in South Africa for several years, working at the Austen Safe Company. He eventually returned to the United Kingdom in the 1990s and settled back locally to Saltash in retirement.
