OWEN PICKARD
Born: 18 November 1969
Came from: Trainee Went to: Hereford
First game: 04 March 1989 Last game: 20 April 1992
Appearances: 19 (6/13) Goals: 1
The first in a clutch of young strikers to come through the Argyle ranks in the early 1990s along with Paul Adcock, Marcus Crocker and Mickey Evans, Pickard made 19 appearances in an era of constant struggle for The Pilgrims. The Barnstaple-born forward was given his debut by Ken Brown in March 1989, but had to wait until September the following year to notch his one and only goal for the club – in a 2-0 win against Leicester City at Home Park.
Pickard failed to add to that solitary strike and he was released by Peter Shilton in the summer of 1992, going on to become a prolific goal-scorer in non-league football with Hereford United, Dorchester Town and, most notably, Yeovil Town.
Pickard returned to Barnstaple to run a chiropody practice in the town and in the early 2000s had a spell as manager of Barnstaple Town and later as joint manager of Barnstaple FC.
