Born in Bristol, Reid was signed by John Sheridan in September 2014 on a one-month loan (later to become nearly a season) from Bristol City to boost the manager's attacking midfield options after Alex Bray's short-lived loan at Home Park.
Reid started at Ashton Gate at the age of seven and worked his way through the club's schoolboy and youth teams before being offered his first professional contract in April 2011 and then making his Football League debut a month later when he came on as a 57th minute substitute in the last game of the season. His only senior appearance the following season was for Cheltenham Town whilst on a month's loan in December 2011, when he came on as a last minute substitute.
In the 2012-13 season Reid added four more league appearances to his total for Bristol City and scored his debut league goal, and also had a loan spell at Oldham Athletic, for whom he played seven times. In the 2013-14 season he became firmly established in the Robins' starting line-up, playing 32 times in all competitions and scoring once more, which earned him a new two-year contract at Ashton Gate in June 2014.
Reid began the third loan spell of his career after taking advice from two former Argyle players: Bristol City's Joe Bryan and former City player Yannick Bolasie, both of whom spoke positively about their time at Home Park. Reid's flowing style and eagerness to attack with the ball made him a popular acquisition, and the news of his loan extension for a second month was well received. However, in mid-November, with two weeks remaining, Bristol City recalled the midfielder because of an injury crisis at Ashton Gate. The Robins' problems were thankfully short-lived, and by the end of the month a new loan was arranged until the end of the year.
Three weeks after Reid's return to Bristol in early January, he was back for his third loan spell with Argyle in the 2014-15 season. This time he was available for the remainder of the campaign and became an ever-present as the Pilgrims just managed to reach the League Two play-offs. But his stand-out displays in midfield were not enough; Argyle were beaten 5-3 on aggregate by Wycombe in a play-off semi-final and the 22-year-old then returned to his parent club once more.
Back in the Championship with Bristol City, Reid made 30 appearances in the 2015-16 season and scored two goals. Then in June 2016 he committed to the Robins by signing a new two-year contract with a further 12-month option.
Reid's stock continued to rise; he scored 19 goals in 46 league games in 2017-18 after conversion to a striker. He was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year and attracted interest from West Bromwich Albion and Derby County. In June 2018 Cardiff City completed his transfer for a fee reported to be £10m, on a four-year deal, ahead of their return to the Premier League under Neil Warnock.
In his first season with Cardiff, Reid changed his surname by deed poll to Decordova-Reid to reflect his gratitude and respect for his mother. Unfortunately, the Bluebirds' top-tier experience lasted just one season, and then in August 2019 he was loaned to Fulham, an arrangement that was made permanent in January 2020 and which led to Fulham's return to the Premier League at the end the season.
In 2019 he won international recognition, electing to represent Jamaica, and by the start of the 2024-25 season, had won 36 caps and scored six times.
The 2023-24 season was his fifth and last at Craven Cottage. In January 2024, after 209 appearances and 32 goals, he moved to newly promoted Premier League rivals, Leicester City, on a three-year deal.
