NADJIM ABDOU
(also known as Jimmy)
Born: 13 July 1984
Came from: Sedan Went to: Released
First game: 25 August 2007 Last game: 04 May 2008
Appearances: 33 (24/9) Goals: 2
Abdou joined Argyle on a free transfer after leaving French side Sedan. A combative midfielder, he started his career with hometown club Martigues before joining Sedan in 2003, where he spent three seasons in the French Second Division and a further campaign in the top-flight. After his release he spent the 2007 pre-season on trial at Home Park, impressing manager Ian Holloway enough to earn a one-year deal.
After a season of endeavour in Argyle's midfield, 'Jimmy' turned down a new contract in the summer of 2008 in favour of a drop to League One and a two-year deal with Millwall. Thus began many seasons of service at the New Den, and also an international career with African country Comoros (an archipelago north of Madagascar).
Abdou's tireless displays in the middle of the park soon made him a firm fans' favourite and helped his side to a fruitless play-off final at Wembley Stadium at the end of his first season in east London. The next campaign finished with another League One play-off final, and this time The Lions roared their way to the Championship. In 2012 Abdou topped Millwall's Player of the Year poll, which was followed by his third appearance at Wembley when Millwall reached the FA Cup semi-finals in April 2013.
In January 2014 Abdou was reunited with Ian Holloway when the former Argyle manager took the Millwall helm. In the following few months Holloway's change of style meant fewer opportunities for him, but the 30-year-old was back as a regular choice in 2014-15.
Abdou became a firm favourite in south-east London, making 341 appearances for the club across nine seasons, six of which were at Championship level. Having suffered relegation in 2014-15, he helped Millwall regain their Championship status two seasons later, including the full 90 minutes of their win in the League One Play-off Final at Wembley. That July he signed a new deal until the end of the 2017-18 season, but then elected to join League One's AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan.
Released by Millwall in the summer of 2018, Abdou returned to his hometown club, Martigues, on France's south coast.
