The Lyndhurst Opens

26 Jan 2002

The big day finally arrived, and what a treat! Even the appalling weather couldn't spoil it; not a hitch all afternoon, a great game, tremendous atmosphere and a cheque for 1.8 milllion pounds handed over by the Football Stadia Improvement people. Most city councillors were at the game, having invested a similar amount, and surely they were impressed. There must have been nothing but smiling faces after the game as the board entertained the dignitaries, and hopefully plenty of talking about the future.

Even though it has taken just 6 months, the old Home Park seems an age ago. And what next? Well finishing touches are still to be made, so watch out for further updates here, and an announcement for phase 2, one way or the other, should be made in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, all 700 photos taken since that day in early August will stay on this site, and I'm planning to do some 'then and now' pages using pictures from identical locations.

There will no doubt be some cracking photos (as always) in the next match programme. If the look closely at the picture of the Grandstand above, you can see Dave Rountree, the club photographer, in the centre-circle taking the ones of the new Lyndhurst stand.

Thanks to the Club for giving access to Home Park, and Barr for their cooperation.
