ASHLEY BARNES

Note: Barnes' totals includes a substitute appearance at Cardiff on 26 December 2009, which was omitted in some reports of the game, so other sites or publications might show one fewer appearance as a result. Commentary of the closing minutes provides the evidence (click here - copyright BBC Radio Devon, with permission and thanks).

Born: 30 October 1989

Came from: Paulton Rovers   Went to: Brighton and Hove Albion

First game: 14 August 2007   Last game: 16 January 2010

Appearances: 25 (16/9)   Goals: 2

Barnes joined Argyle from non-league Paulton Rovers after an extended trial period, and had loan spells with Oxford United, Salisbury City and Eastbourne Borough before breaking into the Pilgrims' first team squad. Despite a promising spell in the team at the end of the 2008-09 season, he did not progress during the next campaign and was loaned to Torquay United for the final three months of the season. However, he returned to Home Park within a month and then joined Brighton and Hove Albion in a similar deal. He scored four times in eight games for Brighton and manager Gus Poyet admitted he would be interested in a permanent deal, a move which was completed early in the following pre-season, Barnes joining the Seagulls for an undisclosed fee.
