WILLIAM WAKE

Born in Bamburgh, Northumberland in 1886, Wake began his career with local side Newcastle United but did not make an appearance for the first-team. In the summer of 1907 he moved to Home Park and the club handbook described him as "full of promise, a well-built youngster, very speedy and reliable and never tires". However, he struggled to break into the side and played only ten games, primarily at left-half, before joining Exeter City in time for the 1908-09 campaign, their first in the Southern League.
