After an impressive two-year stint at Exeter City he signed for Argyle in June 1966 and soon displaced John Leiper between the sticks. However, he in turn lost his place to Pat Dunne and returned to Exeter City the following summer. After another three seasons at St James' Park he moved on to Bristol Rovers before ending his career with Gillingham, with whom he also moved into coaching.
