Nephew of Alan Sealey, who played for Argyle in 1967, Les was a characterful keeper who played for Argyle early in his long career. Born in Bethnal Green in 1957, he started his career with Coventry City, clocking up 158 appearances before moving to then top-flight Luton Town. He served Luton for seven years, joining Argyle on loan in 1984. Sealey's next loan out from Luton was in 1990, when he made two appearances for Manchester United, famously displacing Jim Leighton for the 1990 FA Cup Final Replay. Sealey then gave his winner's medal to Leighton, athough the FA later awarded medals to both players. He went on to sign for United for the 1990-91 season, playing 31 more times, and then played for Aston Villa, Coventry City (loan), Birmingham City (loan) before a further two appearances for Manchester United in 1993-94, covering for the injured Peter Schmeichel. During this second spell at Old Trafford, Sealey played in the European Cup Winners' Cup Final against Barcelona. Short spells followed at Blackpool, West Ham United, Leyton Orient and Bury.
Les's life was tragically cut short when he died of a heart attack, aged just 43, in August 2001 whilst working as West Ham United's goalkeeping coach.
