Pulis, son of Argyle manager Tony, spent the second-half of the 2005-06 season on loan at Argyle from Stoke City, where he had also been managed by his father. He began his career at Portsmouth, under Pulis senior, but made only one first team appearance before being allowed to join Stoke City, again linking up with his father who had been sacked by Pompey a few months earlier. He immediately joined Torquay United on loan but played just three times before returning to Stoke. The following season he joined Argyle and made a handful of substitute appearances during his five months at the club.
After returning to Stoke in the summer of 2006, Pulis had brief spells on loan at Grimsby Town and Bristol Rovers before being released by Stoke and signing for Southampton in August 2008. Injuries severely hampered his time on the South Coast and he never made a first team appearance for the Saints. After regaining full fitness he enjoyed loan spells at Lincoln City, Stockport and Barnet all in League Two. In January 2012, after a further season in League Two at Aldershot, Pulis decided to try his luck in America with USL Pro side Orlando City. Incidentally, the third-tier American club is an affiliate of Premier League Stoke City. Pulis started to combine playing and coaching duties during his three years in Orlando and at the end of the 2014 season he decided to call time on his playing career to move into coaching full time with Orlando.
