GORDON NISBET

Born: 18 September 1951

Came from: Hull City   Went to: Exeter City

First game: 10 January 1981   Last game: 09 May 1987

Appearances: 334 (334/0)   Goals: 17

Despite his roots in the North East, Nisbet's first professional club was West Bromwich Albion. He was originally a goalkeeper for the Baggies, until Don Howe saw his potential as an outfield player during reserve team games. He spent four years as first choice right-back at the Hawthorns before moving on to Hull City, where he was again virtually ever-present. However, a change of management led to a transfer to Argyle in 1980. An extremely attacking full-back, he was blessed with great speed, determination and a willingness to tackle with ferocity. He was a vital cog in the team that reached the 1984 FA Cup semi-final, and many regard him as one of Argyle's greatest ever players. Nisbet finished his playing career with a brief spell at Exeter City, played non-league football for Ottery St Mary and also had two games as caretaker manager at Home Park in 1992.
