Came from: West Ham United Went to: Hendon
First game: 10 April 1990 Last game: 27 April 1991

King came through the youth ranks at Upton Park but struggled to progress to the first team. He also attended the FA's School of Excellence and during his time there finished as England U16's leading scorer in 1985-86, scoring six goals in ten caps, finding the net in wins over Denmark, Algeria and bagging a hat-trick in a 4-0 victory over Tunisia that clinched victory at a tournament played in France. In January 1986, at the age of 16, He scored in West Ham's FA Youth Cup third-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur and also played in the Irons' South East Counties League team four times that season. He signed apprentice terms with the Hammers in July 1986 and was capped by England U17s in a 3-3 draw with Sweden at The Hawthorns in November of the same year. A regular scorer for the Irons’ reserve team, he signed his first professional contract with the Club in May 1988.
The Hillingdon-born midfielder joined Argyle in April 1990 as one of David Kemp's first signings just a month after he took charge. His flowing locks made eight appearances towards the back end of the 1989-90 season, five of them as starts, with his debut coming in a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. With an eye on the following campaign, King was part of the 1990 pre-season visit to Sweden, coming off the bench in the first game of the tour to score twice as Argyle came from behind to beat Tvaaker IF 3-2. He then started the next two games: a 0-0 draw with Trelleborg followed by a 3-1 win against Lund. Finding chances in the 1990-91 season harder to come by, King made a further eight appearances spread between August and April, half of which came from the bench. The Greens managed to stave off relegation, finishing 18th, and King was released at the end of the season having never really done enough to cement a regular place. His final appearance for Argyle came in a 4-0 mauling at Notts County. Following his release, he opted to return to London and continue his career in non-league football, signing for Hendon. He went on to represent Bristol Rovers and Northern Ireland club side, Ballymena United.
In February 2025, it was reported that King had passed away at the age of 55.
