Back to GoS-DB Hub Find Another Player LEIGH COOPER Born: 07 May 1961 Came from: Apprentice Went to: Aldershot First game: 24 November 1979 Last game: 17 March 1990 Appearances: 387 (380/7) Goals: 18 Cooper made the Argyle left-midfield slot his own in the early 1980's with consistently busy and energetic displays. The arrival of John Hore as Argyle manager in 1983 saw Cooper's status elevated when he became one of the youngest skippers in League football at the age of 22. A few months later he led out the Argyle team in the 1984 FA Cup semi-final, but his stray pass ended with Watford scoring the only goal of the game. A miserable run of form in the following season saw Cooper become the target of the Home Park boo-boys, but conversion to left-back rescued his career and he adapted to the new position with great ease. A broken leg in 1988 effectively ended his Argyle career, and he joined Aldershot in 1990 after making not far short of 400 appearances for the Greens. He spent 18 months with the 'Shots before the club folded and he returned to the Westcountry to play for Truro City, where his career was ended by another broken leg.
