Plymouth-born midfielder Collins went to Sutton High School in the city, joining the club in 1978, serving his apprenticeship at Home Park before signing professional terms.
He went on to make his Football League debut at The Valley in January 1981, under Bobby Saxton, against Charlton Athletic. He went on to make two further appearances that season.
Chances were harder to come by the following season and he added just a further league appearance and a single Football League Cup group game by the end of August 1981. At the end of the 1981-82 season, he moved into non-league football, part-time with Falmouth Town, whilst also working within the insurance industry in Plymouth.
After a successful season with Falmouth, his professional career looked to have been resurrected when he moved to Torquay United under his former team-mate John Sims, who was in charge at Plainmoor. He signed a part-time contract for the 1983-84 season and played seven times for The Gulls, before returning to Cornwall to sign for Saltash United. He later also played for Tavistock.
After retirement, he stayed living in Plymouth and continued to work in insurance, before spending time as an electrical fitter. For many years he also ran his own home and commercial maintenance business, all whilst being a keen season-ticket holder at Home Park. Collins was also a matchday guest of Forever Green (the former players' association) at various home matches.
Sadly, Jeremy passed away in June 2025, aged just 63 after a brave battle with cancer.
