Ampadu was a nippy forward who enjoyed a six-game loan spell at Home Park from Arsenal in 1990, scoring in a 5-1 defeat at Port Vale. His career started in Ireland with Sherrads United and Belvedere before he joined Arsenal in 1988. He never quite made the mark at Highbury and, after his time at Argyle, was sold to West Bromwich Albion after a short loan spell with the club. He moved on to Swansea City, helping them win the Associate Members Cup in 1994 and reach the Third Division play-off final in 1997. After he was sold to Leyton Orient, where he spent two years, Ampadu joined Exeter City and enjoyed the last five years of his professional career with the club. He went on to play for Newport County and Tiverton Town.

From Drew Savage in Manchester on 30/07/2016 ...
Possibly surprisingly for a player whose own career could most accurately be described as 'solid lower-league journeyman', Ampadu was the man Arsenal turned to in 2016 when they needed a new manager for their under-18 side. He'd initially rejoined his old club as an academy coach in 2012.
