Born in Newton Abbot, Sangster was a second-year apprentice when drafted into the first-team squad for the first week of pre-season friendlies in 2017. He played the full 90 minutes in Argyle’s 3-1 victory at Plymouth Parkway before playing the last 28 minutes of a 2-1 victory at Tiverton. He then played the whole game at Buckland Athletic, setting up a goal for Nathan Blissett with a superb long-range pass in a 5-1 success.
The left-footed midfielder was spotted playing for his local side, Chelston, and joined the Argyle Academy at the age of nine. He attended Newton Abbot College before joining Ivybridge Community College to complete his secondary education. At Argyle he was a young member of the 2013-14 season's successful Milk Cup squad, reaching the semi-finals against Corinthians from Brazil. He later made his full debut for the under-18s during the 2014-15 season, having been involved as a substitute on five other occasions.
Sangster made his first team and Football League debuts two days before Christmas Day 2017, six days before his 18th birthday, as an 89th minute substitute in the 4-1 win at home to Oldham Athletic. At the end of that season he was rewarded with his first professional contract, signing on for the 2018-19 season under Derek Adams.
Early into Ryan Lowe's tenure as manager, following Adams' dismissal, Argyle loaned out Sangster and his team-mate Tom Purrington to Southern League club Dorchester Town until January 2020.
In November 2019, he left Argyle by mutual consent, cancelling his loan at Dorchester in the process. His contract at Argyle was due to run until June 2020, but was terminated so he could focus on his business interests.
Sangster and a colleague established RareBoots4U.com, a bespoke independent business selling football boots not available in stores by focusing on rare boots and reconditioning old ones. Their customers included Karim Benzema, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Xavi, Ivan Rakitic, Mason Mount & Joao Felix.
In October 2023, Sangster came out of retirement to sign for Plymouth Parkway after being on trial at the club.
