Brown played for Wadebridge Town before joining Argyle in 1960. He spent three years at Home Park but could not establish a place in the first-team and moved on to Bristol Rovers. Over the next five seasons he made over 150 appearances at inside-forward for Rovers, despite requesting to become a part-timer so that he could work on the family farm near Wadebridge. Evenetually he chose to leave the professional game to concentrate on his work and returned to Wadebridge as player-manager for a single season before retiring altogether.
